NSA Removes 12,000 Ghost Names from Payroll in Corruption Crackdown

F

elix Gyamfi, Director-General of the National Service Authority (NSA), has announced the removal of approximately 12,000 individuals from the payroll because they do not have Ghana Cards. He noted that none of these individuals have contacted the NSA for clarification on their removal.

The payroll is currently undergoing an audit to address corruption, and the NSA will send its data to the Controller and Accountant General’s department for a thorough review.

This action comes after a scandal involving ‘ghost names’ that resulted in significant financial losses for the state. Attorney-General Dr. Dominic Ayine revealed that Ghana lost over GHC 548 million due to this scheme, with legal action expected against 12 individuals, including former Deputy Director Gifty Oware Mensah.
