The Government of Ghana has announced the immediate closure of its embassy in Tehran due to rising tensions between Iran and Israel. This decision aims to protect Ghanaian lives, as stated by Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa on June 16.

“The Mahama administration is prioritizing the safety of Ghanaians in Iran amid the escalating Israel-Iran conflict,” the minister shared on social media. To ensure the safety of embassy staff, the embassy in Tehran will remain closed for now.
Evacuation efforts are underway for Ghanaians living in Iran, including diplomats, students, and professionals. The government is working to secure safe passage through Iran’s land borders.
Mr. Ablakwa emphasized that the situation in Israel is being closely monitored, and further instructions may be issued soon. Meanwhile, operations at the embassy in Tel Aviv will be scaled back, and Ghanaians in Israel are urged to stay in touch with the consular department.
The government remains committed to finding a diplomatic solution to the conflict and will do everything possible to protect Ghanaian citizens.
