Government Owes Zipline GH¢175m, Drone Delivery Service to Close 3 Centers

The Minority in Parliament has announced that medical drone delivery service Zipline will be closing three of its operational centers due to government debt totaling GH¢175 million.

They cautioned that these closures could severely impact public health by disrupting the supply of blood, vaccines, and other essential medical resources, especially for remote communities that depend on this service.

During a debate on the 2026 Budget on November 25, Ranking Member of the Health Committee Dr. Ayew Afriyie criticized the government for not honoring its financial commitments or engaging with Zipline, despite acknowledging its vital role in healthcare delivery.

“Zipline is shutting down Centres 4, 5, and 6, citing a lack of communication and the government’s failure to provide necessary funds. This year, only GH¢20 million was allocated for Zipline, even though the government owes the company GH¢175 million,” he stated.
