The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is taking significant steps to honor its founder, the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, by embedding his legacy into the party’s identity. At the 46th anniversary of the June 4 uprising, held at Agormanya Lasi Park in the Eastern Region, NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah announced exciting proposals to commemorate Rawlings’ impact.
One of the key proposals is to rename the party’s national headquarters to “Jerry Rawlings House.” Asiedu Nketiah stated, “Party headquarters around the world are named after their founders. Ghana cannot be an exception.”
Additionally, the party plans to amend its constitution to mark June 22, Rawlings’ birthday, as an important party day. They also propose that the entire month of June be celebrated annually as “NDC Month.”
Asiedu Nketiah expressed concerns about the current state of Revolutionary Square, located near the Jubilee House, urging the establishment of a committee to restore it to its original glory.
The June 4 uprising, led by Rawlings in 1979, is a cornerstone of the NDC’s political heritage, representing values of accountability and revolutionary change.
These proposed reforms aim to ensure that Rawlings’ legacy lives on for future generations.
